Malta, May 2019: The Institute of Directors Malta Branch (IoD) recently held their first two day training seminar at the George Hotel on the topic of "The Role of the Director and the Board" which was attended by over twenty board directors and senior executives of Maltese regulated and non-regulated companies. IIG Bank (Malta) Ltd's independent non-executive director, Doug Nelson also attended.
The presentation was delivered by IoD UK's Head of Corporate Governance, Dr. Roger Baker supported by former HSBC Malta CEO Mr. Mark Watkinson. Mr. Nelson said that it was a full program with a lively debate and frank exchange of views and experiences relating to the need for increasing adoption and appreciation of the value of corporate governance within all company structures. The attendees, after further study have the opportunity to gain academic accreditation under the IoD's Chartered Director program which includes both the Certificate and the Diploma in "Company Direction" leading to the Chartered Director qualification, Mr. Nelson indicated.
